Son Parc and it's neighbour Arenal d'en Castell, are quiet resorts in the district of es Mercadal on the dramatic northern coast of Menorca, 12 miles from the capital Mahon and the airport - perhaps 30 minutes by car on rather poor and badly signposted roads. Taxis from the airport cost €30-40. There are buses but they aren't frequent and can be unreliable. Son Parc has a sandy beach with lifeguards, sun beds and parasols, pedalos and canoes. There is a beach cafe. At one end of the beach the sand drops away quite quickly and at the other it shelves very gently and so is good for swimming with young children. Outside of June - August the coast can be windy thanks to the 'Tramuntana' north wind, which may also bring in jellyfish. Son Parc has Menorca's only golf course (with driving range).
